Book review: The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows by Jenni Keer

The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows by Jenni Keer

When Maisie Meadows finds herself single and jobless on New Year’s Day, she resolves that this will be the year she focuses on bringing her scattered family back together. Romance is all very well, but it’s the people you grew up with that matter the most.
But a new job working at an auction house puts her in the path of Theo, a gorgeous but unattainable man who she can’t help but be distracted by. As their bond begins to grow, Maisie finds herself struggling to fulfil the promise she made to herself – but the universe has other ideas, and it’s not long before the Meadows family are thrown back together in the most unlikely of circumstances…
Can dealing with other people’s treasures help Maisie to let go of the past, and teach her who she ought to treasure the most?

My thoughts...

Where do I start when trying to describe this incredibly special story? This book had heart and soul by the bucket load and delivered a touching and heartwarming narrative that will stay with me for many years to come.

Jenni's books are like master classes in the art of character creation. Each and every one is crafted to perfection with such certainty that they become an integral part of the performance, no matter how small their role. I fell in love with every character and couldn't choose a favourite as they all sparkled in their cookie and quirky ways. But Maisie was certainly a shinning star at the centre of this stunning story, who stepped into the spotlight and gave a sublime performance. My heart went out to her on many occasions but I equally couldn't help but laugh out loud at her naieve and endearing approach to life....I mean four boxes of gnomes!!!

What I love most about a Jenni Kerr book is that wonderful infusion of magic that weaves its way into her work. This dusting of fascination adds an element of allurement and draws the reader in with enchantment and intrigue. Maisie's endeavour to bring her family back together is mirrored in her need to reunite the bewitching tea set together as a whole. This need for order is so sweetly etched into Maisie's character that you can't help but will her on to succeed in her life's ventures.

This story will wrap you up in charm and magic and whisk you away on an unforgivable ride. Maisie and the gang are pure perfection and this is one story not to miss. So get this book on your radar at once and step straight into Maisie's won't be disappointed in the slightest.

About the author...

Jenni Keer is a history graduate who embarked on a career in contract flooring before settling in the middle of the Suffolk countryside with her antique furniture restorer husband. She has valiantly attempted to master the ancient art of housework but with four teenage boys in the house it remains a mystery. Instead, she spends her time at the keyboard writing women's fiction to combat the testosterone-fuelled atmosphere with her number one fan #Blindcat by her side. Much younger in her head than she is on paper, she adores any excuse for fancy-dress and is part of a disco formation dance team.

The Hopes and Dreams of Lucy Baker was published in January 2019.

The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows is out in July 2019.
